Atlantic Theater Company (Neil Pepe, Artistic Director; Jeffory Lawson, Managing Director) is proud to announce that the New York premiere of Rolin Jones’ comedy THE JAMMER, directed by Jackson Gay, has now been extended through Sunday, February 17 in advance of officially opening tonight, Wednesday, January 22.
THE JAMMER began previews January 9 and will now play through Sunday, February 17, 2013 off-Broadway at Atlantic Stage 2 (330 16th Street, between 8th & 9th Avenue).
THE JAMMER features the celebrated ensemble cast of Patch Darragh (The Glass Menagerie), Dan Domingues (Atlantic’s The Cherry Orchard), Christopher Jackson (In the Heights), Billy Eugene Jones (Passing Strange), Keira Naughton (The Rivals), Kate Rigg (Dogeaters), Jeanine Serralles (The Maids), Greg Stuhr (Atlantic’s Offices) and Todd Weeks (Atlantic’s Bluebird).
In this wild theatrical adventure about New York in the late 1950’s, the Jammer plunges into the hard-boiled, bizarre world of professional roller derby. Jack Lovington (Darragh), a lovelorn Brooklynite, needs to find himself and stake a claim in the world. When he joins up with the rough and tumble Brooklyn Brown Devils, little does Jack know that his life is about to be turned completely upside down and that he’s about to find himself on a most unexpected roller coaster ride. Jones takes us back to the Bushwick of yesteryear and creates a romantic urban fable for our time.
The design team for THE JAMMER features scenic design by Wilson Chin, costume design by Jessica Ford, lighting design by Paul Whitaker and original music and sound design by Broken Chord.
