MATILDA THE MUSICAL in New Guinness World Records 2013 Edition

Guinness World Records, the global authority on record-breaking achievement, today announced the stars of stage making their debut in the 57th edition of the world’s best-selling copyright book, Guinness World Records 2013.   MATILDA THE MUSICAL smashed West End records when it scooped a total of seven awards at the 2012 Laurence Olivier Awards, securing the record Most Laurence Olivier Award wins. In the process MATILDA THE MUSICAL stole the title from the 1980 production of Nicholas Nickleby, also an RSC production, which had held the record with six Olivier awards for more than 20 years. MATILDA THE MUSICAL will open on Broadway on April 11, 2013; previews begin on March 4 at The Shubert Theatre (225 West 44th Street).  It is produced by The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) and The Dodgers.

The Roald Dahl adaptation, written by Dennis Kelly and with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, collected the Olivier Awards for Best New Musical, Best Actress in a Musical (shared by the four young actresses in the title role: Cleo Demetriou, Kerry Ingram, Sophia Kiely and Eleanor Worthington-Cox – who at ten years of age is the youngest ever winner of an Olivier Award), Best Actor in a Musical (Bertie Carvel as Miss Trunchbull), Best Director (Matthew Warchus), Best Theatre Choreographer (Peter Darling), Best Set Design (Rob Howell) and Best Sound Design (Simon Baker) . The inclusion of MATILDA THE MUSICAL in the 2013 edition coincides with Roald Dahl Day on  September 13 2013.
