This week’s Between Shows is the upcoming movie RUBY SPARKS written by one of our favorite people, Zoe Kazan. We’ve loved working with Zoe as an actress (Come Back, Little Sheba; The Seagull; Angels in America) and we’ve loved working with her as a playwright (We Live Here), so we’re really looking forward to her feature screenwriting debut which she also stars in opposite her boyfriend Paul Dano and is directed by Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris (Little Miss Sunshine)
In RUBY SPARKS, Calvin (Dano) is a young novelist who achieved phenomenal success early in his career but is now struggling with his writing – as well as his romantic life.
Finally, he makes a breakthrough and creates a character named Ruby who inspires him. When Calvin finds Ruby (Kazan), in the flesh, sitting on his couch about a week later, he is completely flabbergasted that his words have turned into a living, breathing person.
RUBY SPARKS opens tomorrow, July 25.
