Breaking news:
Laurie Metcalf Coming to Broadway in ‘The Other Place’
NYTimes.com/ArtsBeat Blog – by PATRICK HEALY

The 2013 Tony Awards race for best actress in a play has begun. Starting in December the Emmy-winning actress Laurie Metcalf (“Roseanne”) will reprise her acclaimed performance as a drug-industry businesswoman who unravels emotionally in “The Other Place,” a psychological drama by Sharr White that ran off Broadway in 2011 and will be remounted on Broadway by Manhattan Theater Club, the organization confirmed on Thursday. Ms. Metcalf, who is currently drawing rave reviews in London playing Mary Tyrone in “Long Day’s Journey Into Night,” won an Obie Award and a Lucille Lortel Award last year for “The Other Place”; hers was the sort of performance that often draws Tony Awards attention but “The Other Place” wasn’t eligible because only Broadway productions are considered for Tonys. –

Manhattan Theater Club executives also said on Thursday that a new comedy, “The Explorers Club,” by Nell Benjamin, would run in their Off Broadway theater space with previews starting May 14 and an opening night of June 4. Ms. Benjamin was nominated for a Tony in 2007 for best score for “Legally Blonde.” The new play takes place in 1879 London and deals with a private men’s club of explorers who are faced with crises, including a woman seeking admission. The cast and director will be announced later, as will more productions filling out Manhattan Theater Club’s season.

How Digital Marketers Will Survive the Coming ‘Do-Not-Track World
AdAge.com/DigitalNext – by ADAM LEHMAN

We stand at a fascinating crossroads in data-driven marketing.

On the one hand, publishers and marketers are finally gaining access to truly integrated, cross-platform data and marketing solutions. These new capabilities enable companies to collect the data their customers are generating across the full range of digital devices in circulation – computers, smart phones, tablets, even set top boxes – and combine it with data drawn from analytics tools, CRM systems and point-of-sale data sets; to integrate and harmonize all of this data from disparate sources in a single, unified data dashboard. They’re then able to deploy those audience segments across web for audience-targeted advertising campaigns, personalized content delivery and other integrated marketing programs.

On the other hand, we are seeing the corresponding backlash to these advances in data-driven marketing – in the form of a privacy tools arms race. Spurred on by privacy advocates and regulators, browser makers continue to raise the stakes in their approaches to implementing “Do Not Track” options. Microsoft has announced that next version of Internet Explorer will ship with the “Do Not Track” option already checked.

So where will things go from here? Will cross-channel, unified uber-data platforms usher in a new era of marketing efficiency and effectiveness? Or will new approaches to consumer privacy produce a DNT-default world, dramatically limiting options for marketers and publishers?
