“A powerful drama in a flawless MTC production. Laura Linney & Brian d’Arcy James give performances of sensitivity and richness. Alicia Silverstone brings intelligence and humor to her character. Eric Bogosian is terrific.”
– Charles Isherwood, The New York Times
The Manhattan Theatre Club production of Donald Margulies’ TIME STANDS STILL opened last night to rave reviews from critics. The production, directed by Daniel Sullivan, and starring Eric Bogosian, Brian d’Arcy James, Laura Linney and Alicia Silverstone is currently playing at MTC’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street).
Below is a sampling of the reviews:
“A POWERFUL DRAMA IN A FLAWLESS MTC PRODUCTION DIRECTED BY DANIEL SULLIVAN. Time Stands Still is Donald Margulies’ finest play since the Pulitzer Prize-winning Dinner With Friends. His dialogue crackles with bright wit and intelligence. Laura Linney is an actress of unusual economy and grace. Brian d’Arcy James is a remarkably versatile actor who has never been better than he is here. Alicia Silverstone brings intelligence and humor to her character, and Eric Bogosian is terrific.” – Charles Isherwood, The New York Times
“TIME STANDS STILL SOARS! Laura Linney is remarkable as ‘Sarah.’ Her unmannered lucidity and utter lack of vanity make Sarah convincing and sympathetic. Brian d’Arcy James gives a vital performance. Eric Bogosian is winning and Alicia Silverstone gives ‘Mandy’ warmth and substance.” – Elysa Gardner, USA Today
“FOUR STARS! Laura Linney is sublime in Daniel Sullivan’s deftly directed production. She keeps you glued from word one. Eric Bogosian and Alicia Silverstone hit all the right notes. Brian d’Arcy James has never been better. He gives a highly charged performance. Donald Margulies writes with intelligence and humor and creates dialogue that always hits the ear as real.” – Joe Dziemianowicz, The Daily News
“SMART, STYLISH, & TIMELY. Under the savvy direction of Daniel Sullivan, Donald Margulies’ play is layered with an intriguing seriousness that inspires discussion after the curtain comes down. Laura Linney is luminous. She galvanizes the production with unsparing directness and a superb sense of timing that makes this photographer one of the most compelling characters to grace a Broadway stage this season.” – Michael Kuchwara, Associated Press
“MTC’S IMPECCIBLE PRODUCTION IS TIME WELL SPENT. A taut two hours, expertly directed by Daniel Sullivan. Brian d’Arcy James is astonishingly versatile and Eric Bogosian is excellent. This impressive, timely new work is a dynamite showcase for stellar acting.” – Roma Torre, NY1
“Alicia Silverstone gives a bright, sharp-edged performance. Laura Linney navigates her character’s interior minefields with great delicacy.” – Stephanie Zacharek, New York Magazine
“THIS ONE’S GOING TO BE A HOT TICKET, TRUST ME! Laura Linney is marvelous and Brian d’Arcy James is perfect. Eric Bogosian and Alicia Silverstone are in top form.” – David Richardson, WOR Radio
“FOUR STARS! Once again, the masterful Daniel Sullivan has taken a play and given us the smartest version of it possible. All four characters are treated with respect and acted with skill. Manhattan Theatre Club’s naturalistic production may well leave you wounded.” – Adam Feldman, Time Out New York
