Academy Award® nominee and two-time Emmy Award® winner Mare Winningham (Georgia, “Grey’s Anatomy”) has been awarded a 2008 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical for her acclaimed performance in Atlantic Theater Company‘s world premiere musical 10 MILLION MILES.

 

The League of Off-Broadway Theatres and Producers announced winners of the 2008 Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway in a ceremony at the Union Square Theatre on May 5th.

 

This season Winningham has also been recognized with a Drama League Award nomination for Distinguished Performance and a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Featured Actress for her New York and musical stage debut in 10 MILLION MILES.

 

10 MILLION MILES began previews May 11th, opened June 14th, 2007, and played an extended engagement through July 15th, 2007 Off-Broadway at Atlantic Theater Company at The Linda Gross Theater (336 West 20th Street). The production also featured Irene Molloy, Matthew Morrison, and Skipp Sudduth. 

 

10 MILLION MILES tells the story of Duane and Molly’s road trip in an old pick-up truck from the southern tip of Florida to Upstate New York, with many detours along the way. Featuring music and lyrics by Grammy Award® nominated recording artist Patty Griffin (Impossible Dream), a book by Keith Bunin (The Credeaux Canvas) and direction by Tony Award® winner Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening), the world premiere of the new musical  explored the pursuit of love and family, and the geography of the American dream.

 

Mare Winningham has appeared on stage, screen, and in over sixty movies for television.  In addition to her Academy Award® nomination and two Emmy Awards®, she received an Independent Spirit Award, a Golden Globe Award® nomination, two Screen Actor’s Guild nominations, and a Peabody Award for Excellence in Television. She rose to fame with her performance in the landmark coming of age film St. Elmo’s Fire, and over the last two decades, the former “Brat packer” has built a fan base from years of acclaimed and diverse roles including her celebrated turn as a legendary folk singer in the film Georgia and her recent role on the hit series Grey’s Anatomy.  As a singer and musician, she has also toured across the country. She recently released her third studio album “Refuge Rock Sublime”, a recording of original Jewish country/folk songs with a unique take on traditional Jewish themes. Her other albums include “What Might Be” (1992) and “Lonesomers” (1998).

 

Atlantic Theater Company is currently presenting the New York premiere production of Olivier Award® winning playwright Conor McPherson‘s play PORT AUTHORITY, directed by Henry Wishcamper and featuring Tony Award® nominee Brian d’Arcy James (Sweet Smell of Success), Tony Award® winner John Gallagher, Jr. (Spring Awakening) and Olivier Award® winner Jim Norton (The Seafarer).

 

PORT AUTHORITY began previews Wednesday, April 30th, officially opens Wednesday, May 21st and plays a limited engagement through Sunday, June 15th, 2008 Off-Broadway at Atlantic Theater Company at the Linda Gross Theater (336 West 20th Street).
